Stocks in rally mode on Europe hopes
Are stocks rallying for another day after an awful week last week because the Democrats and Republicans got together? Because taxes were lowered more? Because President Obama's jobs plan was passed? Because of anything the U.S. has done? No. It is rallying because there is now real hope that the expected Greece default can be handled with care and not infect the rest of the system and bring down the entire world economy.
When we talk about what we need to do in this country to fix the economy, to speed up the tepid growth, let us not forget that there are forces much larger over which we have little if any control. Our economy is more connected to the whims of the global market than at any time before, whether we like it or not.
