What If We Are Part Of The Voiceless Community?
The Media's Deportation Of Jose Antonio Vargas
What should Vargas have done? He was brought into this country illegally but didn't know it at the time. He didn't find out until years later when he wanted a driver's license. Should he have gone "home?" Stayed and worked in the fields only, despite his considerable professional skills? Had he been brought into this country that same way a few generations earlier, he would not have even been considered "undocumented" or "illegal," a reality that has helped many current Americans from many different ethnic backgrounds. I've heard from a few in this area who don't "look" illegal. The system is broken and backed up and the politics are preventing us from creating sane immigration policies. What should he have done? I don't know, but had I been in a similar situation, I probably would have done what he did.
