Why is Rep. Michele Bachmann doubling down on this?
All national politicians, if they are paid attention to long enough and enough cameras and microphones are thrust in their face, are going to flub facts and misspeak. It's really no big deal, and it isn't the sole domain of Republicans or Democrats. But why double down on something so blatantly wrong? I don't get it. She could have said ... "What I meant to say is that the Founding Fathers, though imperfect like the rest of us, built the architecture that led to the freedom we all enjoy today" or something like that and moved on. Why not just do that? Or she could have even just dodged the question, like politicians and other national speakers are trained to do also. Why double down?
