The willingness to voluntarily surrender my genetic DNA code would involve a level of trust of my present and all future government, and all its employees, to a degree I can't even begin to imagine.

Denise

I second that, Sunny.
And if you "trust" the polls, most people don't trust the government to get healthcare right.......do they really expect people to blindly fork over their DNA?

Sunny, Dennis: The argument I've heard from Solicitor Greg Hembree goes like this: We fingerprint when someone is arrested and DNA is the new fingerprint, so what's the big deal. Do you buy that argument.

Sunny Fry

No.

Denise

Things like this are among my many reasons for saying a robust "hell to the no" to that argument, Issac:

Being a veteran, my fingerprints are on file with the FBI. 45 years later no one has bothered me. The military can require dna from each enlistee and probably does since if they are missing in action and found later the remains may require a dna test to id the soldier.

Even President Clinton had to provide dna as a result of his oval office adventures.

I loved paragraph 6 from the NYT on this article citing there is an imbalance in the current data base because more arrestees are black and hispanic. I guess he was saying there is "profiling" or "discrimination". It is kind of like saying you must be prejudiced if you dna test criminals only.

Notwithstanding the idiocy of para. 6 I don't think it is a bad idea.

Lastly, my trust in the federal government is currently running around level 2 out of a possible 10.

Ralph -

I am not sure if dna testing is a good idea or not -

They still make mistakes in dna testing - Although as technology gets better dna testing will get better and it has proved some people to be innocent if they have a good enough sample -

This may be off the topic but forget about dna - Look at fingerprints -

If you ask most people would you mind if the government fingerprints you - They will say - No way the government is going to fingerprint me -

That is why I had a laugh at what you said about the military and I agree with you -
You said -
“Being a veteran, my fingerprints are on file with the FBI. 45 years” -
“The military can require dna from each enlistee” -

Good point -

We worry about the rights of criminals who are arrested and their “rights” - Yet when you enlist to serve your country they tell you - Stand in line - Shut up and put your hand out to be fingerprinted -

I think you are right - I bet if they ever start mandatory dna testing on a large scale - The people serving the country will be the first to have their dna in the government data banks and they did not even commit a crime -

Only in America - As they say - LOL
