Now that the top brass in our military -- including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- say it's time to end the incredibly discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", what logical reason is left for us to continue a policy which tells some of our bravest troops that we support your efforts to keep us safe -- even if it means giving your life -- but we must continue treating you like second-class citizens? What's also amazing is that our top allies, like the British, did away with this kind of policy a decade ago, while places like Russia and North Korea and China more closely resemble our stance when it comes to having gays serving in the military. There is no excuse for that. Let's put an end to this and get back to making protecting this country -- by making sure all of our best and brightest are serving -- the priority it long should have been. Turmoil was supposed to result when the armed services were desegregated, yet we still have the world's most powerful military. And gay marriage was supposed to destroy "traditional marriage," though states that allow gay marriage have among the lowest divorce rates. Keep your religious views about what you believe God thinks about gays. We all have religious opinions. That's not the issue. Senselessly throwing away more than 10,000 of our qualified soldiers since this was implemented -- and continuing to do so even while we are fighting two wars -- is, and it makes no sense. None.
