There are probably tens of thousands of people dead in Haiti in the aftermath of the worst earthquake that country has seen in more than 200 years, and some people are using it to play politics, or worse, Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson among them. Bill O'Reilly, while mentioning that he contributes to a charity that serves Haiti, used a good bit of his "Talking Points Memo" to talk about the country's corrupt leadership and how liberals need to stop thinking liberalism will help the place. Others are comparing President Obama's response time -- press conference or statement response time -- to how long he took to publicly address the Underpants Bomber. They say he took less than 24 hours to say something about Haiti -- an extremely poor country suffering from a natural disaster of Biblical proportions, with dead bodies lined up on the sidewalks and others still trapped under rubble -- but took three days to address the Underpants Bomber, a bumbling guy who burned his own crotch, the plane was unharmed and no one else was even injured. Yeah, that comparison makes sense to me, too. If we can't push aside politics for something like this, will we ever be able to do so again? Good grief! I'm proud that our country is always the first to respond. I'm sad that some of us want to overshadow that kind of compassion with hate.
