Teacher cuts child's braid -- bad move by the teacher. I'm not sure she understood what she was stepping into. Hair, particularly for black women, is an extremely touchy subject for a variety of reasons, including its role in untenable, historical racial stereotypes. I understand the teacher's frustration -- the noise the girl was making with her hair was annoying -- but she should have handled it differently; send her to the principal's office if necessary. Or, if this was my daughter, I'd want her to call me and let me deal with my daughter's disrespect towards her teacher. And no, the teacher shouldn't be fired, but she must come up with better discipline techniques.
