Sanford Highly Unpopular, But Impeachment Support Minimal

A well respected polling firm has found that Gov. Mark Sanford has a high unfavorable rating and many people want him to resign, but not as many are in favor of impeachment,in part because of the unfavorable of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and the prospect the state will be dragged through the mud even more if impeachment hearings are held next year. I'm still at the same place: I thought the Sanford I thought I knew -- but obviously didn't -- would have resigned and believe he should be impeached for abandoning his duties. Most South Carolinians seem to be as disappointed with him as I am but aren't as hard-edged in the conviction that he no longer deserves to reside in the Governor's Mansion. A vote is likely today to push us one step closer to impeachment, with a fuller hearing next week. I say full speed ahead.
