I'm an African-American man who disagrees with columnist Star Parker, and I also disagree with the president on particular gay rights issues, such as waiting to suspend the prosecution of the ``Don't ask, don't tell'' policy (though a recent announcement took baby steps in that direction) and his opposition to gay marriage. But I agree with his comparison of this fight -- of not telling those most affected to wait a little longer -- to that of the civil rights movement of the '50s and '60s. The same arguments -- the Bible said it was wrong, it's forcing someone else's beliefs on all, etc. -- that were used against integration and other civil rights reforms are being used against the gay community today. It was wrong then and is wrong now. Having said that, this is how one openly-gay white woman and one young, African-American minister worked together despite their different views about homosexuality.
